What Does A Church Need To Make An Impact?

Last night at our leadership meeting I posed a question to all who attended. That question was like this...if you were to advise me on what a church has to have to make in impact in our culture, then what would that be? The answers varied. I have posted a few responses:

-Heartfelt Worship...Justin Swasey
-Spiritual Gift Exploration...DeWayne Morris
-Love for lost, Compassion for the hurting, Unity...Sandy Morris
-Relevance...Lisa Mock
-Willing to change, Help the community as we grow...Jim Mock
-Freshness, Follow-up...Todd Mock
-Competent Leadership with vision..ME

What do you think a successful church needs to have in place to make a kingdom impact?

Effective outreach in many different areas and a variety of ways, and plenty of discipleship opportunities.

Well, based on what is popular right now, lots of programs in place to reach every group and generation of people and on and on and on. That's what's popular. The feel-good stuff.

But I think people that are sick of the facade are looking for a body of Christ that is for real and cares about them. Everybody these days is hurting - most people, pretty deeply. They are mistrusting and wary of another fake church. I believe a successful church is a church where weary, hurting people can find a real relationship with Jesus and real relationships with people who love God.

How about a place where people can feel comfortable and welcome regardless of there personal situation or place on the journey. I'm not just talking about the down-trodden. what about the executive who looks like he's altogether. A place where the lenses of judgementalism (both directions)are removed and the eyes of compassion are opened. How about an atmosphere where people encounter God.
