Should We Change Our Name?

I have several people suggest that a name change is in order with our location change. Some people have just questioned whether we would change it or not. I have never viewed our name as a relevant name. It was a play on TD Jakes if you ask me. An attempt to draw attention with a big name. Our church has built a good reputation in the community, and many know us as The Potter's House. On the other hand, we have been confused with a Glory to Him, TD Jakes, a cult in Australia, and a counseling/recovery center. Some people have called about our pottery.
Because I have now engaged in developing a sepeterate campus church in Florida. I think it would be okay to have a name change. I like Christ-Life Church. That is the name of the campus in Florida. This might be a good time to bring it all under the same name. What do you think?

Where has THE POTTERS HOUSE gotten us? As you say, it often gets us confused with other ministries. Yes, we have a good reputation for reaching out to the poor. But is that causing new people to come to our church? If we are going to change our name, now would be a great time. I say let's go for it. New name, new location, fresh start, and a renewed vision. Is Christ-life Church too similar to Christ Community Church? I don't have any better ideas right now.

Why are we sweating a name at this point? Change the name, don't change the name, I just do not think this is the most important thing right now. Also if we are changing our name to keep us from confusing us with other ministries, why would we change our name to a church in Florida? Is there more of a connection to this church than I am familiar with? Personally though if I get a vote on a name...I am going with The Rolling Stone Full Gospel Missionary Start Me Up Tabernacle. But who am I? :)

Before we were asked to vacate our property I had decided to embark on helping a church launch in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Of course, our vacating has taken priority over launching another church. Christ-Life is the name we are calling the work in Florida. Since there may be other campus opportunities I thought the cities we do campuses in could have the same name with their city attatched. For instance,
Christ-Life Church (Enterprise Campus)
Christ-Life Church (New Smyrna Beach Campus)
Christ-Life Church (Port Orange Campus)
I believe there is alot in a name and the reputation behind that name...we have a good reputation in Enterprise, yet we have had tons of misrepresentation because of our name. We lead a lady to Christ a few years ago. Her family was very involved in a local church (denom not relevant). She had not been in church in years. Her kids were in church. Her husband got saved. The ladies family said she needed to be in their family church (that had done nothing to reach out to her in 30 years). They googled Potters House and convinced her we were connected to an extreme cult in Australia...on top of that if one more person calls and asks for TD Jakes I will scream (just kidding but it has happened). I have received TD Jakes mail!!!
Amy, you are right the name is not nearly as important as the real matter at hand. I do think The Stone would be cool. I have just had several people pose the question, and I have never been a big fan of our church name. Justin, you pose a good point on similar name. That's why I like to hear from y'all...keep it coming.

PMS - When I was reading your post. Ecc. 3 1:8 came rushing to my thoughts. It talks about how there is a time for everything. Bro it is just time for the change.

I was in Dakotas tonight and the song, "I kissed a girl" came on the radio. It gave me the perfect opportunity to tell the guy and girl working there about my crazy pastor who played the song in church. Then, I told them about the Bucket List series and invited them to the service Sunday. Pray that God would continue to draw them to Himself. Who have you all been inviting?
